Kali Puja , also known as  Shyama Puja  or  Mahanisha Puja , [1]  is a festival, originating from the  Indian subcontinent , dedicated to the  Hindu  goddess  Kali , celebrated on the new moon day of the Hindu month  Kartik  especially in the regions of  Bengal ,  Chittagong ,  Sylhet ,  Rangpur ,  Bihar ,  Mithila ,  Odisha ,  Assam , and the town of  Titwala  in  Maharashtra . [2]  It coincides with the  Lakshmi Puja  day of  Diwali . While the  Bengalis , Chittagonians,  Sylhetis ,  Rangpuris ,  Odias ,  Assamese  and  Maithils  worship the goddess Kali [2]  on this day, the rest of India and Nepal worships goddess  Lakshmi  on Diwali.

Grishma  is short for  Grishmarutu , the  Sanskrit  word meaning  summer . This is one of the six  seasons  ( ritu ), each lasting two months, rest of them being:  Vasanta  (spring), Varsha ( monsoon ),  Sharad  ( autumn ),  Hemanta  (pre- winter ), and  Shishira  (winter). It falls in the two months (Rashi, Saur Maas, or solar months) of  Jayeshtha  and Aashadh as per  Hindu calendar , or April and May as per  Gregorian calendar . It is preceded by  Vasanta , the  spring  season, and followed by Varsha, the  rainy season . The word grishma is also used as name for girls. The word grishma is also used for heat.
